An Epilator For Hair Removal:7 Steps For Perfect Results

smooth perfect legs using an epilator

Ah, yes, the wonders of using an epilator for hair removal. For some of us, it’s the one thing we wish was never invented, and there’s some of us in that camp who believe the sole reason for the invention of such a device was for torture. Then there’s those of us who love to epilate.

It’s almost like a hobby where we pull out our best and favorite epilator and just love to run it across our skin for something to do… But before you start plugging in your Braun epilator or Emjoi epilator, I have some tips for you to get a satisfying and lasting result!

Tip #1

Exfoliate. The best way to have great success with using an epilator hair for removal is to prepare your skin in the area you plan to trim.

The best way to do this is through exfoliation. I typically will use a body scrub or loofah to help open the pores of my skin to make removal of unwanted hair easier and quicker.

Tip #2

Pick the right time. For beginners who want to try using an epilator for hair removal, you may want to seriously plan your session. If you intend to show off baby smooth legs or arms, it may be a good idea to epilate either late at night, or the day before in order to avoid redness showing and ruining your look.

Tip #3

Hold it correctly. A great way to achieve flawless epilator hair removal for the ultimate in 100 % hair removal from any part of your body, is to position the epilator properly.

If you hold it at a 90-degree angle to your skin and move it in the opposite direction the hair grows, you should see immediate, hair free results.

Using an epilator at the correct angle ensures the hair is pulled out from the roots cleanly without breaking the hair off short.

Tip #4

Check results frequently. As you pass the epilator across your skin you will want to use your other hand to see what you’ve trimmed, and to identify areas you may have missed, or need more attention. There will also be areas on your body where that extra hand will come in handy, by stretching skin to assist with the epilation process….

Tip #5

Ice it. If your skin is getting irritated and turns red, or becomes sensitive as you continue to epilate, there are two things to keep in mind.

If the irritation is serious, stop and rest. For any kind of skin irritation, the best thing to do is to apply an ice pack to numb the skin.

Tip #6

using your epilator for hair removal is not rocket science. It’s also not for everyone. Just because the girls at the office rave about the lasting smooth closeness they get, and that they don’t have to shave for days or weeks, doesn’t mean they suddenly became epilator experts overnight. They very likely experienced a period of uncomfortable sessions and learning how to use one… However, if you really can’t stand it, try something else.

Tip #7

Moisturize. I use shea butter moisturizer before and after I shave my legs with a blade, electric razor or my handy epilator.

There is nothing that can’t be said about moisturizing that hasn’t already been said. Just do it. Your legs, and most importantly your skin will thank you for the extra attention.

Other Epilator Hair Removal Tips….

You had to know I simply wasn’t going to leave you with just seven tips didn’t you? Other things to keep in mind include shaving some sensitive areas first which may make epilation a little easier.

Also, if you find yourself working up a sweat while epilating, talcum powder is a fast and easy solution.

One final bonus tip: I cannot say enough about the benefits of epilation. It is the greatest hair removal method known to mankind. I love that I can sometimes go weeks without having to de-fuzz my legs.

I love that I can wear the barest of clothing and not be embarrassed by rogue hairs popping out where they shouldn’t be. I am very much in love with this kind of hair removal.

That being said, you may not agree as you may find shaving with a disposable blade as the best alternative. Depending on your skin type and hair thickness, wielding an epilator for hair removal may not be in your best interest but you will never know if you don’t try it…..
